This is just a quick background on the character of Q for those non-trekkers.
Q is a character which appeared in the very first Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, 'Encounter at Farpoint'. He was originated by the actor John DeLancie, best known to Days Of Our Lives fans as the inimitable Eugene Bradford.
Q was a member of a group of powerful, immortal entities called the Q Continuum. In this first episode he put humanity on trial, and from there on did his best to make the lives of the Enterprise crew, in particular their Captain, Jean-Luc Picard, as miserable as possible. He was fascinated by humans and what he saw as their weaknesses. He was however, despite his omnipotence, a flawed and perhaps immature individual, usually tormenting other beings or even whole races for his own amusement.
In the episode Deja Q, Q was stripped of his powers by the Continuum and had to contend with the fact that he was now mortal and did not make a particularly good human. In fact, let's face it, he was *pathetic*. In this episode, Q2 (played by Corbin Bernson) had Q admitted back into the continuum after he sacrificed himself (albeit a little unknowingly) to save the Enterprise and her crew.
Q made a return in several later TNG episodes, also guested in DS9 and appeared several times in Voyager.
With regards to Days, I guess if you don't know who these people are, you're not likely to be here anyway. And it would take way to long and cause me far too much of a headache to explain their convoluted and often meaningless lives/storylines.
Timeline
I thought I might just say a few words about my Salem timeline. This story started sometime around early November 96 (I think), shortly after the characters returned from Paris. As I am obviously an exceedingly slow writer, or at least my story moves exceedingly slowly, it must be apparent that we are certainly not in current time.
A note from the Author regarding the storyline
Okay folks, I know a lot of you like/love the way the storyline is going, but many of you loathe/hate it. Guess you can't please all of the people all of the time. ;0) I'm not going to apologize for the turn the story has taken, like the show, if you don't like it, switch off. You might not like *my* Marlena, but then everyone has their own viewpoint. My Marlena is not a saint, she makes mistakes just like other people and I think she can be forgiven them, just like other people. This is not to say I'm *asking* you to switch off however. I'll ask you to please trust me and come along for the ride and if you're patient, the story will play out. And it *is* still a John and Marlena AR, despite any protestations to the contrary ;0)
Addendum: July 99 - Well, now you've all seen what I had in mind for all those months and I'm guessing you like it since I'm no longer being bombarded with how much you hate it. In fact you're telling me you like it ;0) Thanks to those who have written me with their thoughts, I really appreciate the feedback!
